There for the Taking

"Free stuff!" Everyone is looking for abundance in this life and "free" will always catch our attention. Some will want it but feel there's a catch. Others will want to somehow pay for it, either upon receipt or somewhere down the line. Some will grab it and run, only to toss it to the side when something they see as "better" comes along. The word "free" evokes different responses depending on what we've experienced in life and where we happen to be at the point it is offered.
As I read in Isaiah 55, I think of "free" in a totally different light. An invitation to abundant life - God's love, mercy and goodness being offered to me in a way I can't quite wrap my mind around.
He says to us: "Come"...even if you have no money - especially if you have no money. Eat from My table. Thirsty? Have a drink, no, drink your fill!
The God of the universe extends His invitation to everyone. Have you worked hard and acquired everything you've ever wanted but are still pushing forward to find that ever-elusive inner peace? Or do you feel you have been put down, given up on and hung out to dry because every time you move forward one step you're pushed back two? Perhaps you are of those who are in between, you have enough but still feel empty. What could "free" possibly do to fill any of these gaps?
I can almost hear Him continue on: Why do you spend your hard-earned money trying to satisfy the hunger of your heart? Come to me and enjoy my abundance. Really listen to me and your heart will come alive again! I am here for the finding. I will not hide my face from you. Call me and see me run to you. I will pardon you ABUNDANTLY! I don't think like you. I don't act like you. I don't hold grudges nor do I keep score. I will hold back the very hands of time for you if you will just come back to me!
God will do everything His word says and we can be an intricate part of His plans. Eternal plans - energizing, life-changing, spirit-lifting plans - if we will just turn to Him and seek in Him the fulfillment we have been seeking in others. When we return to God He is not offended at what we have tried to find fulfillment in. He is not appalled at the things we have soaked our lives in. He is not threatened, intimidated or scathed by what we bring Him.
You see, Christ's blood is strong enough to remove every stain, counter every attack and move every child of His to complete victory! He will never fail us. He will never turn us away. He will never leave us. He will be there to carry us through every valley, sustain us through every flood and catapult us over every obstacle we encounter.
Come to Jesus. Rest in Jesus and allow Him to do His work in you!
