Truth be Told...

The world is a chaotic mess and America is only a little less so. As followers of Christ we are to be "wise as serpents but gentle as doves". I believe we are to use the common sense God has given us for finances, protection, decision making and problem solving; however, those things are never to override His Word. Being a "bad" Christian or a "good" Christian is not what we should be striving for; living out the truth of Christ is what we should be focused on. We share scripture when it is something we agree with but often ignore those verses that we don't particularly care for. Protests, presidents, politics....refugees, revolts and recessions, all of these things are plastered on our Facebook walls and televisions daily and we plaster our opinions of them daily as well. God has blessed us with everything but we seem to think our blessings are something we acquired by ourselves. Of course work produces results but we have decided that we have the right to pick and choose who we share our blessings with. We want to be selective about who we love, who we accept and who we help then we wonder why the word "Christian" has become such a turn-off to so many. We are offended at those who are offended but we offer them nothing but in your face arguments about how stupid they are to be offended. Why do we become so defensive when others point out how hypocritical they feel the church is?
The truth of the Bible, God's Word, is indisputable and indestructible. It applies to every person regardless of whether we believe it or not. God's Word will be our judge and He is just and right when it is applied. If we have been sitting on a pew for years but have refused to hear it and repent we will have no excuse. If we have decided it is just one more religious fantasy and refuse to accept it and repent we will have no excuse. We can try to explain it away, reason it obsolete and call it dated or old fashioned but ultimately we will come face to face with it's reality. God's Word is truth whether we like it, whether we agree with it or whether we believe it. He has been very patient with us but time is running out. He is loving but He is also just.
I don't think God requires us to try and solve the world's problems but I know He requires us to love our neighbors, to pray for our enemies and to do good to those who may take advantage of us. Here lately we seem to be adamantly opposed to anything we perceive to be a threat to our comfort and prosperity. During these times of conflict, terror, death and fear what makes us distinct? What actions show we are carrying the peace of God with us?
Truth be told, we may need to take a deeper look at the Jesus we claim to love and follow.
